Henderson H. is a war veteran who was injured in a motor vehicular accident several decades ago. He is now a C5/C6 incomplete spinal cord quadriplegic who has a hard time sitting and standing in an upright position. Despite his limitations he remains very positive and is dedicated to leading a healthy and active lifestyle. Henderson also suffers from heterotopic ossification (HO) which requires him to increase weight bearing actions.
Henderson has been coming to Beyond the Chair for over two years now. He typically comes in twice a week for two hours each session. When Henderson is here at BTC, the Neuro-Fitness Specialists focus on all developmental movements such as rolling, sitting, standing, and walking. Due to the HO in Henderson’s right knee he has to continuously keep his body mobile and stay active. HO is an abnormal bone growth in soft tissues like muscle. Without proper passive or active range of motion or weight-bearing activities the HO will worsen and fuse the bone and soft tissue together. The EasyStand Glider is a very beneficial piece of equipment that helps stand individuals in an upright position. The Glider is the only standing frame that provides range of motion for lower body extremities and upper body strengthening by pushing and pulling with the arms. The EasyStand Glider has several adjustments for the feet, hips, back, chest, and arms to fit just about every individual.
The Glider is an essential machine for Henderson’s rehabilitation. The weight-bearing from standing in the Glider has helped breakdown the HO in Henderson’s right knee. The Glider also helps Henderson with his standing posture, muscular endurance, and full-body range of motion. The EasyStand Glider is a wonderful asset to Beyond the Chair because it helps with the majority of our client’s short and long term goals.
